The Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) Anticorruption Programme manager Merita Mustafa said that local institutions should be concerned about the high corruption rate, which to a great extent harms wellbeing of the Kosovo citizens.
According to her, Kosovo judiciary, prosecution, and police still have not built adequate capacities to combat corruption.
However, the Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi stated that his government remains committed to combat corruption, but PM Hashim Thaçi is the most targeted public personality as the head chain of corruption on institutional official level of the country. On the other hand, Head of the Anticorruption Agency Hasan Preteni said that specific steps need to be taken in fighting the high presence of corruption in Kosovo.
In Preteni’s view, corruption in Kosovo is not judged at all.
Nevertheless, according to the Transparency International report, Kosovo is 0.1 percent less corrupt than last year.
KDI believes that the high corruption rate is also impeding Kosovo’s integration into the international mechanisms.
