Kosovo’s independent journalist Vedat Xhymshiti is subsequently exposed to severe threats and intimidations due to his professional journalistic commitment and very often left aside without any support. Sometimes he speaks about his source of informations that several political parties want him dead. However, after several murder attempts during 2011 until 2014, he luckily managed to survive, and after his 4th January 14th, 2012 murder attempt was documented he submitted a law suit against country’s government on May 14th, 2012 and fled the country in a desperate bid to avoid possible assassination plots. The government’s ruling party is alleged to be involved at 2012 case, but ‘Vetevendosje’ party of Albin Kurti is also quite alike distasted from his very recent article about re-election of crimes suspected in Kosovo’s second elections after country had declared its independence in 2008 from Serbia. Vedat Xhymshiti, in recent five years has been reporting also from the countries involved in armed and peaceful rebellion.

Here is what he says in his today’s reaction:

Hello dear colleagues,

cropped-1454613_10151777981332219_1019799838_n.jpgOn Thursday June 19, 2014, I participated in a discussion on social network Facebook regarding student mobilisation in Tirana and Pristina posted by Tirana’s Distinguished Professor, Mr Jani Marka. In this post I had expressed my criticism against the ‘Self-determination’ party (now and further LVV), as I had published a journalistic article February 10th, 2014, which was the tenth anniversary of 2007 peaceful protestors killings in Pristina. The article was published on my blog and Express newspaper in Pristina.

In this discussion was also involved former candidate for mayor of Malisheva from the ranks of LVV Mr Alban Krasniqi, which is a senior official of the party, whose wife is second term lawmaker in the Kosovo assembly. Mr Krasniqi, who between insults and attempts to discredit my professional credibility has also included another question, which is really serious and scary! (Evidence attached!).

Mr Krasniqi was surprised that I am still alive!

Having published my first article as a ‘letter from a witness’, which appeared in the JNK Journal—BIRN (Balkan Investigative Reporting Network) backed newspaper in Pristina in February 2013 – it had raised my reliability (within individuals in the LVV party) expanding connections with individuals (within the party) concerned with developments in LVV who want to inform the public through reporters for the party’s wrongdoings. Few times individuals (party members) have expressed their concerns about my physical safety. The last article published on my blog for the June elections in Kosovo entitled ‘Low-Turnout has re-elected Crimes Suspects‘ – seems to have heavy distaste senior party members, especially in the third paragraph of the second part of the article where I write for inclusion of the three political forces whose leadership is alleged to be involved in organised crime including LVV senior officials, a fact that is supported by NATO Files published in 2011 and recently from Kosovo’s press, but during elections campaign.

"Vedat SHIKu, gjallë je a?" ShIK, is the abbreviation of Kosovo's Secret Service, which is well known as ruling party of PDK secret service that is allegedly involved in political assassinations as well as severe crime ofensese. LVV often use this tagg to discredit those who criticise their political moves.

The ‘reactive’ question of Alban Krasniqi from the ranks of LVV, quote “Vedat SHIKu gjalle je a?” (English: Vedat, you are still alive?) —is scary and supports the concerns of individuals from LVV, who many times have told me quote “LVV want you dead“, but I was determined to ignore this fact until yesterday, when a senior official of the party decided to somewhat understate his surprise that “I am still alive!” It seems that Mr Krasniqi is certainly aware what has motivated him to write such a question.

Therefore I ask the Press Freedom and Human Rights Watchdogs, as well as the media in general to respond publicly in this regard, demand legal accountability by Mr.. Krasniqi, and LVV for their senior official statement.

Keeping publicly and legally accountable the suspected arranged assassinations of journalists may prevent tragedies, which are believed to be designed by party or some politicians, which are suspected for being involved in heavy crimes.
